SUGAR FACTORY

Visit to the Sugar Museum and Factory – follow the trail of the Sugar in Mauritius and visit the sugar museum.
Once lusted after as much as gold, sugar has enjoyed an extraordinary existence, leaving a profound impression on the history and identity of Mauritius.
Rising above the sea of green sugar cane fields, like a great ship at anchor, the old Beau Plan sugar mill with its long history is a true history-maker and teller.
By following the trail of the Sugar Adventure with over 250 years of history, you can trace the history of the whole country.
The tour of the old sugar mill, which has been transformed into a modern museum, lasts about 1:30 hours, at the end of tour, delightful sugar and rum tastings await the visitor.
The adventure starts behind the facade of the factory building, with tales woven around the life story of sugar, which for long period of time has been the main product of Mauritius.
You will then visit the enormous factory, its decade-old machines decked with a thousand lights. A sugarcane hedge leads the way to the fully restored and converted sugar factory where films evoking the early years of Mauritius appear on giant screens.
The factory was used until the 1970s to transport sacks of sugar in the port. Today you can see how the docks used to be in those times and discover their importance to Mauritius.
The Sugar Adventure is suitable for all ages and it has been conceived to be of interest for both international visitors, as well as for the locals.

GOODLANDS

A day in the heart of Mauritian life is waiting for you at Goodlands. Teeming with people, this small town has all its modern facilities: Bus station, snack shops, restaurants, cinemas, supermarkets and even a small casino. Despite all its development, the village has kept a touch of
authenticity with its old shops or ‘tabaji’, its colorful Temple, its beautiful church and its local markets.
Goodlands is indeed known for its markets, or ‘fairs’ as we say here, filled with fruits and local vegetables, textiles and other odds at low prices. You will be spoiled with choice over the alley of tissue, shirts, dresses, shoes and souvenirs. On market days, beautiful displays of fresh vegetables
and fruits will surely attract your attention. If you come in summer take the opportunity to regale yourself with our famous lychees and our delicious perfumed mangoes. As Goodlands isn’t a touristic village, do not hesitate to negotiate the prices when they are not displayed.
Goodlands also has the largest ship model’s factory of the island, made by talented and skilled Mauritians workers. The Historic Marine with its amazing items beautifully detailed, which require hours and hours of work, worth a visit.

GRAND BASSIN

Grand Bassin in Mauritius must be included on your list of attractions to see. The Sacred Lake, also known as Ganga Talao, represents the mighty Ganges river in India. You will find it hidden in the southwest mountains, surrounded by colorful temples and Hindu gods. Ganga Talao attracts a lot of people to Mauritius. Many people visit the site to pray, meditate, play
with local monkeys or simply to walk by the lake and enjoy the beautiful surrounding view.
At the time, the roads were scarce and far away. We’re talking about 1897. The priest searched for the sacred lake and finally arrived at Grand Bassin where he found a lake which he recognized thanks to his dream. The news of the Divine Lake spread rapidly and the following year the pilgrims of the whole island began to walk to the Ganga Talao. Grand Bassin in Mauritius is now one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage places outside India!
The crater Lake Ganga Talao is at the heart of one of the island’s most important Hindu festivals, Maha Shivaratri. Every year, thousands of Hindus make the trip to Grand Basin for a touch of divinity. Maha Shivratri celebrates the god Shiva, one of the three main deities of Hinduism.
Pilgrims wear hand‐made “kanwars”, shrines dedicated to Shiva, at Ganga Talao and, once they have found a suitable place at the water’s edge, they perform their own prayer ceremonies with offerings of fruit, sticks Incense and lamps.

ROCHESTER FALLS

The iconic Rochester Falls is located in the Savanne district of Mauritius, just some 2.5 kilometers away from Souillac (South of Mauritius). It is also known as the widest waterfall in Mauritius. This majestic waterfall is set in an isolated, wild and lush green area where you can find unique and dramatic cliff faces which have been transformed into jagged rectangular blocks by the force of powerful water over the past hundreds of years. The cascading waters tumble from a height of 10 meters through the rocky beds of the Savanne River and form a thick foam. Mesmerizing as it

TROU AUX CERFS

Found in the heart of Curepipe, is the dormant volcano of Trou aux Cerfs.
One of the famous natural tourist attractions in Mauritius is the Trou aux Cerfs dormant volcano located about 1 kilometer from the town of Curepipe. The dormant, volcanic crater is around 605 meters above sea level, with a diameter of 350 meters and a depth of around 100 meters. Interestingly, Trou aux Cerfs is also known as ‘Murr’s Volcano’.
Unlike the typical volcanic features, Trou aux Cerfs’ crater is surrounded by a vast area of lush forest consisting of indigenous plant species and some giant green pine trees. In the center of the crater there is a small lake. It is believed that the Trou aux Cerfs volcano erupted once and has remained dormant for the last 700 000 years; experts believe that there is a potential chance for it to become active again.
From the view point on the crater you will have a spectacular view of major part of Mauritius Island. Definitely, one of the main highlights is the 360-degree view of the town, Curepipe, and the majestic view of the Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis- Moka mountain range.
